Changing filter pads too often
I would recommend you use our FilterFirst Premium True Dual Density filter pad. This pad has 2 layers. The top layer's open fiber construction traps larger particles while the bottom layer's dense fiber network traps fine particles - working together to produce crystal-clear water in your aquarium. Here is a link for more information: https://www.aquaticexperts.com/products/filterfirst-aquarium-filter-media-for-crystal-clear-water?variant=43646581047532 It comes in a money-saving 6-foot length. You just cut off what you need. Our customers love our FilterFirst.
Comparison of Polishing Pad and FilterFirst
Our polishing pad is only a mechanical filter which means it traps fine particles from the water. I do not know what filter you have but typically hobbyists use a combination of our FilterFirst dual-density filter pad, polishing pad, and activated carbon. Our FilterFirst filter pad traps large to small particles from the water then the water flows through to the polishing pad to trap fine particles from the water. Our Premium Activated Carbon removes organics that tint your water a yellowish-brown, odors, and much more. Since each one has a different purpose to get the best results you would use all three filtration products along with biological filter media such as bio rings.

Most of our turtle customers use our Filter First to keep their water clear. The polishing pads are a great idea but they can clog up rather quickly so you want to have the water flowing through your canister filter filtered before going through the polishing pad. Our customers typically use the FirstFirst pad first then the water flows through the polishing pad, this allows the polishing pad to last longer before needing to be cleaned or replaced. The water is forced down through the center of the three baskets. The FilterFirst and Polishing Pad should go in the first basket, soft sides facing up.
