Can you recommend a sponge filter that would grow beneficial bacteria and would work in tandem with Aquarium Filter Pad?

Last updated on 03 Nov, 2025

Sponges trap a lot of waste along with being a good surface area to grow beneficial bacteria. A better choice than a sponge would be to use bio balls or ceramic rings after our Premium aquarium filter pad. These products provide tons of surface area to grow beneficial bacteria while trapping very little debris. Our filter pad will trap most of the debris going through it but in some filters water can bypass our pad.
